Mataking Island is a pristine white sandy island with crystal clear blue waters. Located in the Semporna region, approximately a 45-minute boat ride from the town of Semporna, the island spans an area of about 40 acres.
Various marine life can be observed on the island, including coral reefs, whale sharks, and more, attracting the attention of tourists who come to visit. The lush trees on Mataking Island also serve as a habitat and protection for various bird species and butterflies. To reach the island, visitors from outside the Semporna region can take a bus to Semporna or use their own vehicles, then proceed to the jetty to board a boat.
It may not be easy to reach this island, but the beauty of the island and its underwater life make the journey worthwhile. The Jeghier Architect team was tasked by the client to create a conceptual design for a resort located on Mataking Kecil. This island is connected by a stunning sand bridge, allowing visitors to walk on it, almost as if splitting the two oceans.
We endeavored to design the resort rooms with dynamic shapes resembling the contours of the island itself. This project is still in the design development stage as other resort projects from our client take precedence for completion.
We will update with the latest design once it progresses to the next stage. Cheers!
